China Lodges WTO Challenge Over US OCTG Pipe

The U.S initially imposed anti-dumping duties on Chinese OCTG in 2010, after finding that the products were being sold in the U.S. at unfairly low prices and were harming the U.S industry, according to the U.S Dept of Commerce. The U.S has also imposed countervailling duties on OCTG imports from China. 

Shen Danyang, spokesman for China's Ministry of Commerce, said in Dec 2013  in a statement that China has requested consulations with the U.S. regarding 13 anti-dumping duty orders imposed against Chinese imports, including imports of  Oil Country Tubular Goods .

China pointed to a few potential issues with the methods the U.S. used in its anti-dumping investigations, saying they appear to be inconsistent with WTO rules. Shen Danyang said those errors led the U.S. to incorrectly find that Chinese products were being sold in the U.S. at less than fair value and inflated duty rates. 

He added that the U.S. duties affect some 8.4 billion Us dollars worth of Chinese exports and that the affected industries in China had been harmed as a result of the U.S. trade measures. Aside from Oil Country Tubular Goods, the spokesman didn't specify which other products the U.S duty orders affect. 

However, a spokesman for the U.S Trade Representative's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on China's WTO filling. 

Note: OCTG-refers to family of steel tubes and casings which are used for exploration and production of oil and gas. OCTG includes drill pipe, casing and tubing subjected to loading conditions as per their exact applications.

It is made to withstand the pressure generated from the extraction process. Thread Protectors, as its name indicates, are often used to prevent the threading of the casing pipes or tubings from the damage in the transportation. 

Thread Protectors from Hebei Borun Steel Trade Co.,Ltd can be divided into 2 types.

Couplings For Casing Pipe & Tubing

The coupling is a short length of pipe used  to connect two joints of casing pipes or tubings. Unlike ordinary coupling, it effectively solves the problem of fatigue fracture that is easily caused by the stress concentration and protect the threads.The coupling is normally made of the same steel grade as the casing pipe or tubing.

Price of Galvanized Pipes Goes Up

Recently most of the galvanize processing factories in Tangshan City, Hebei Province were cancelled due to the severe air pollution they have done. And it is reported that Tangshan Gov will make a second action to the other rest high-pollution industries at the end of August 2013. It caused  the price rise of galvanized steel pipes, especially the hot galvanized pipes. Plenty of galvanizing work went quickly to Tianjin City due to the banning of galvanize processing factories in Tangshan, which made the price of finshed galvanized pipe higher than usual. EN10210 Standard specifies technical delivery conditions for hot finished hollow sections of circular, square, rectangular or elliptical forms and applies to hollow sections formed hot, with or without subsequent heat treatment, or formed cold with subsequent heat treatment to obtain equivalent metallurgical conditions to those obtained in the hot formed product.

About API Steel Line Pipes

Line pipe is manufactured mostly form high-strength carbon steel, and is made to strict engineering and metallurgical specifications developed by the American Petroleum Institute (API).

One particular standard, API Specification 5L, defines requirements for pipe made to transport natural gas, oil and water. This specification includes standards for the dimensional, physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of the carbon steel. Pipe mills produce 2 types of line pipe: Seamless and Welded.

However, in fact, most pipes produced for interstate natural gas pipelines are the welded type, because interstate systems require larger diameter pipe. The diameter for seamless line pipe is very limited form 3 inches to 24 inches. But welded line pipe can give more choices when it comes to larger sizes, which contains ERW pipe, LSAW pipe, and SSAW pipe with diameter 1 1/2 to 100 inches.
