Casing is a large-diameter pipe that serves as the structural retainer for the walls of oil and gas wells, or well bore. It is inserted into a well bore and cemented in place to protect both subsurface formations and the wellbore from collapsing and to allow drilling fluid to circulate and extraction to take place. Steel Casing Pipes have smooth wall & minimum yield strength of 35,000 psi.
Tubing is pipe used for the transportation of crude oil and natural gas from an oil or gas layer to the surface after drilling is complete. It is made to withstand the pressure generated from the extraction process. Tubing is manufactured in the same way as casing, except that an additional process known as "upsetting" is applied to thicken the pipes.

Price of Galvanized Pipes Goes Up

Recently most of the galvanize processing factories in Tangshan City, Hebei Province were cancelled due to the severe air pollution they have done. And it is reported that Tangshan Gov will make a second action to the other rest high-pollution industries at the end of August 2013. It caused  the price rise of galvanized steel pipes, especially the hot galvanized pipes. Plenty of galvanizing work went quickly to Tianjin City due to the banning of galvanize processing factories in Tangshan, which made the price of finshed galvanized pipe higher than usual. EN10210 Standard specifies technical delivery conditions for hot finished hollow sections of circular, square, rectangular or elliptical forms and applies to hollow sections formed hot, with or without subsequent heat treatment, or formed cold with subsequent heat treatment to obtain equivalent metallurgical conditions to those obtained in the hot formed product.

About API Steel Line Pipes

Line pipe is manufactured mostly form high-strength carbon steel, and is made to strict engineering and metallurgical specifications developed by the American Petroleum Institute (API).

One particular standard, API Specification 5L, defines requirements for pipe made to transport natural gas, oil and water. This specification includes standards for the dimensional, physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of the carbon steel. Pipe mills produce 2 types of line pipe: Seamless and Welded.

However, in fact, most pipes produced for interstate natural gas pipelines are the welded type, because interstate systems require larger diameter pipe. The diameter for seamless line pipe is very limited form 3 inches to 24 inches. But welded line pipe can give more choices when it comes to larger sizes, which contains ERW pipe, LSAW pipe, and SSAW pipe with diameter 1 1/2 to 100 inches.

The largest benefit to using seamless steel pipe is the increased pressure ratings. When steel pipe is rolled and welded, the weakest point in the pipe is the welded seam. A seamless steel pipe does not have a seam, so the tensile strength is uniform around the entire circumference of the pipe. Steel pipe has nominal pressure ratings that are based on the tensile strength of the alloy (mixture of metals) and the wall thickness of the pipe. Using seamless pipe is more expensive but allows for smaller wall thicknesses and pipe weight, which can affect design and costs.

What Is Galvanized Steel Pipe?

Galvanized steel pipe belongs to one kind of steel pipes with surface treatment on the pipes, which is named as galvanization. Galvanization (or galvanisation) is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron, in order to prevent rusting. The term is derived from the name of Italian scientist Luigi Galvani

Galvanized steel pipe is generally connected by threads on either end of a length of pipe. A small amount of adhesive is typically placed on the threads before screwing them together, in order to reinforce the connection. If no threads are available, the pipes and fittings can be welded together, although caution should be taken because the heat from welding can release dangerous zinc fumes into the air. Pipes can be cut using a cutoff saw or hacksaw.
